Oculus Rift Will Cost $599, Shipping on March 28th

Oculus Rift Bundle

Pre-orders have finally opened for Oculus Rift, the highly anticipated virtual reality headset that is expected to push sales for virtual reality. Those who want to get in on the ground floor of the VR scene should prepare to shell out $599 USD for the headset and accompanying peripherals. The price tag includes the headset, sensor, Oculus remote, cables, Xbox One controller, Lucky’s Tale, and as a pre-order incentive, EVE: Valkyrie.

This morning was the reveal of both the price and an expected ship date, which was previously set at the ambiguous Q1 2016. According to the Oculus blog post this morning, the first shipments of the headset will start shipping on March 28th, 2016 to 20 countries. For the rest, it seems like it may not be until May 2016 that the Oculus Rift will ship, based on the store’s expected ship date listing. In April, a limited number of retailers will start selling the device outside of the Oculus store.

For those unsure if their PC will be able to run the Oculus Rift, pre-orders will begin in February at $1499 USD for an Oculus-ready PC and Rift bundle. There is also a compatibility tool offered on their website that will allow users to check whether their PC meets the requirements.
