One Punch Man Is Getting A Live-Action Movie

According to Variety, it’s been announced that the popular Manga and TV Anime Series One Punch Man, will be getting a live-action movie adaptation. The movie will be written by Venom’s Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner for Sony Pictures. Variety stated on the subject that “Sony is very high on the property given its popularity,” and there is a “possibility of adding another franchise to the pipeline.”

Background

For those unfamiliar with One Punch Man; It follows the titular One Punch Man Saitama and his transformation into an unbeatable superhero who wins any fight he partakes in, with just one punch. The series is both comical and an adrenaline rush to experience, and it would be interesting to see how its humor and charm would transfer to the big screen.

One Punch Man was first developed as a web manga by creator ONE. Yūsuke Murata and ONE went on to launch the One Punch Man manga on Shueisha’s free “Tonari no Young Jump” website in 2012. It was then serialized in Shonen Jump later on.

What worries me the most about this live-action movie is that this will be done in Hollywood, a fact that doesn’t spur a lot of confidence. It’s also worthy to note most Anime live-action movies don’t do well in terms of reviews or even with fan reception.

Nevertheless, it could be a good film that introduces newcomers into the fandom, or it could be straight dumpster fire. Let’s hope it’s the former and not the latter. There isn’t much information on the movie, such as the release date or casting for now, but that is sure to change soon.

Are you looking forward to this movie? Or do you think it’ll be just as bad as the others? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
