PAX East: XCOM: Enemy Unknown Heading to iOS Platforms

At PAX East today, 2K Games announced that XCOM: Enemy Unknown, from developer Firaxis Games, will be making its way to iPhone and iPad this Summer. The title is said to be a port of the PC/console game, as opposed to an iOS remake.

“It is a straight port. We have not made any gameplay exceptions,” said Lead Designer Jake Solomon to Joystiq. “You play the exact same game, it’s just now fully playable on an iPhone or an iPad.”

IGN has noted that, when they briefly saw the game running on the iPad, character shadows and muzzle effects were nowhere to be seen, but the game still ran just fine. Publisher 2K later went on to discuss the difficulties in porting the game to iOS, namely the filesize restrictions, since the PC version of the game requires a decent amount of hard drive space.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown has yet to be given a price or a specific date during the Summer season, but you may be happy to know that it will, at least, come with the Elite Soldier DLC.
