PAX Prime 2014: 2k Australia delivers with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Sometimes the further you get away from the original source, the poorer in quality the product will be, which in turn hurts the franchise and makes fans suffer. Well, cast aside those worries with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel as 2k Australia has taken ownership in the latest Borderlands installment and knocked it out the park.

On the show floor yesterday, we got a chance to play through some of the game and it was evident immediately that 2k has either matched or surpassed the previous quality in which we’re accustomed to by Gearbox Software. Everything you’d expect from the Borderlands franchise has been included. What impressed us the most was how seamlessly one could go from Borderlands 2 to the Pre-Sequel and still think they would be in the same game. Not to sound like a broken record but there is zero drop-off in quality when it comes to this release.

Being on the moon and having the ability to use freeze guns and gravity jumps was a nice added touch to make sure everyone feels they’re getting a new experience. The vast amount of guns, ammo, and cash are still prevalent throughout the game. Other trademarks items like the dialogue, enemy classes, and side quests can be found too. Fans of the franchise are going to be pleased with how spot on this game is compared to the previous installments.

When we went to PAX East in Boston earlier this year, it was made clear that 2k Australia was in control of the game but Gearbox would be assisting and collaborating heavily with them. The two powerhouse developers have essentially blown up the myth that too many cooks spoil the broth. This is not the case here as The Pre-Sequel looks amazing and plays even better. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set to release on October 14th.
