Pikmin 4 is Happening, Nintendo Confirms

A fourth Pikmin game is happening, folks – and Nintendo has finally confirmed it.

Speaking to Eurogamer back in July, Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamoto originally confirmed the existence of a fourth installment in the real-time strategy series which he claimed at the times was “actually very close to completion.”

Nintendo has unsurprisingly corroborated the news to multiple sources over the last few hours, despite there being no official word on what system it could be for. “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development,” the company said, “but that is all we can confirm at present.”

Though the Wii U remains the company’s primary home console for the time being, it’s been speculated that it could be made for its newest model that was announced this past March, codenamed NX. Details haven’t been very forthcoming on the platform, but we do know that Nintendo coincidentally patented a design for a home console without an optical disc-drive earlier this year.

The Pikmin series last saw a full-fledged entry in 2013 with Pikmin 3 for the Wii U, eleven years since its debut in 2001 on the Nintendo Gamecube.
