The first official trailer for Sony’s upcoming sci-fi comedy movie Pixels has been released online.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer (see above) has President William Cooper (Kevin James) enlisting the help of his friend Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler) in an attempt to stop an alien invasion of Earth.
The aliens, however, have disguised themselves as iconic characters from video games, including Namco’s Pac-Man and Nintendo’s Donkey Kong.
Toru Iwatani (Denis Akiyama), the creator of Pac-Man, tries to reason with his “sweet little boy” towards the end of the trailer, but his heartfelt speech isn’t enough to stop ‘evil’ Pac-Man from biting his hand.
“When aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults,” the film’s synopsis reads.
“President Will Cooper has to call on his childhood best friend, ‘80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.”
Directed by Chris Columbus and starring Kevin James, Josh Gad, Adam Sandler and Peter Dinklage, Pixels will be released in cinemas on July 24th, 2015.
