China has finally granted approval to Sony to launch the PlayStation 3 in China… six years after it originally launched in Japan. This is due to China having strict laws which technically class games consoles as illegal devices.

This console ban was introduced to the country in 2000 to protect the nation’s youth. It could be assumed that Sony has labelled the device as a home entertainment device due to the Blue-Ray player and various online services such as iPlayer and 4OD which can be accessed through the system.

Other news in China reveals that the Nintendo 3DS XL will also be released in the country this December.
