The PlayStation 4 will need a system update applied to it on launch day that adds a number of features the system has been touting for a while, like downloading as you play, gameplay uploading and Blu-Ray/DVD functionality.

PS4 System Software Update 1.50 is about 300 MB in size and claims to add new features alongside the PS4’s basic functions, like playing games and being able to sign in, presumably. Unfortunately, for those that were looking forward to utilizing the system’s suspend/resume feature will have to wait, as that’s something that will come after launch. Other features found in the PS4 will be detailed at a later date, as well as other things coming after launch.

As for what the update does add, look no further than this rundown provided by Sony and the PlayStation Blog.

It never occurred to me that the PlayStation 4 would need an update right out f the box, but at least Sony told us before November rolled around….seven days from now.
