The Playstation’s where “the greatest play,” but it may also be where the cash strapped won’t.
Already into its closed beta this month, Sony’s PlayStation Now streaming service has unveiled the surprising price points for its new video game rental system. Offering a select Playstation 3 totals via digital download, the service is currently offering rentals for as low as $3, with long-term rentals that falling between a more significant $3-$20.
PS Now players in the beta right now can see the preliminary prices and rental periods, and they’re just a tad on the pricy side.
Final Fantasy XIII-2, for instance, will cost:
• $5 to rent for 4 hours
• $8 for 7 days
• $15 for 30 days
• $30 for 90 days.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 just happens to cost $18 on Amazon too at the time of this writing.
Guacamelee! is a bit cheaper at:
• $3 for four hours
• $6 for seven days
• $8 for 30 days
• $15 for 90 days.
You can also own the full version of Guacamelee courtesy of the Playstation Store for those same $15.
While beta testers will have to brace these decidedly high sales tags, it remains to be seen just how pricy the full version will be the year’s end. Sony has elaborated that “as with all content published on PlayStation platforms, publishers and developers will ultimately decide their game price points.” Until then, you’re wallet’s just going to have to brave it.
An open beta for Playstation Now releases at the end of next month on July 31st, while open betas for PS3 and Sony TVs will be arriving at a later date.
God of War Ascension, Sly 4: Thieves in Time, Beyond Two Souls, Infamous 2, The Last of Us, Killzone 3, and Payday 2 are just a few of the titles coming to the streaming service, which you can also stream from your PS Vita to your TV using Sony’s Vita TV device, coming soon to North America and Europe for $100.
