Niantic has said that it will be releasing Alolan forms for Gen 1 Pokemon in Pokemon Go. The developers have also teased which of the Alolan forms will be released. However, the developer hasn’t said when they will be released. The forms were first introduced for generation seven of Pokemon.
Niantic released a statement on their website, speaking about the new pocket monsters, saying:
“Whether your forecast calls for rain or shine, we’re celebrating all around the world by introducing some special Pokemon from the tropical Alola region to Pokemon Go. Get ready for some of the Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region to appear in their Alolan forms!”
Alolan Forms
Generation 1 Pokemon with Alolan forms include:
- Rattata (Dark/Normal)
- Raticate (Dark/Normal)
- Raichu (Electric/Psychic)
- Sandshrew (Ice/Steel)
- Sandslash (Ice/Steel)
- Vulpix (Ice)
- Ninetales (Ice/Fairy)
- Diglett (Ground/Steel)
- Dugtrio (Ground/Steel)
- Meowth (Dark)
- Persian (Dark)
- Geodude (Rock/Electric)
- Graveler (Rock/Electric)
- Golem (Rock/Electric)
- Grimer (Poison/Dark)
- Muk (Poison/Dark)
- Exeggutor (Grass/Dragon)
- Marowak (Fire/Ghost)
These all come from the Alola area of the first game, which is how they got their name. Until now, Pokemon Go only had characters from the first three generations of games. However, with this news it looks like further generations will be included. Because of the news, it looks like it should be soon enough. However, it is currently unknown when the new forms will come out.
Go Fest
The news comes just before the games Summer Tour. The tour will start on June 30 in Dortmund. However, Go Fest is going to take place in Chicago on July 14 and 15. The Summer Tour will take place across three cities; Chicago, Dortmund and Yokosuka. Because it was so popular last year, it looks like more events will take place; however, very few were announced.
It is unclear when the characters will be released, however, Niantic has said it will be “in the coming weeks.” However, they should be released before Go Fest.
