Pokémon Go Plus Delayed to Ensure Quality Product

Very late last night, Nintendo took to Twitter to reveal that Pokémon Go Plus – the accessory that will pair with mobile devices for Pokémon Go – will be delayed until September. This news brought many assumptions that there simply would not be enough product to meet the demand, so they delayed it to increase the quantity available at launch. A representative for Nintendo reached out to Polygon to notify them that the reason for the delay is purely to ensure a quality product is manufactured.

Pokémon Go Plus is set to offer players a way to stay in touch with the game without having their phones out every waking moment. The Battery Saver mode is somewhat helpful, but still requires attention from the player. The accessory would allow players to pair their Android or iOS device via Bluetooth and be notified when a Pokémon or PokéStop is nearby. It will retail at $34.99.

It makes sense that Nintendo would take the time to make sure the product works properly. Pokémon Go has been a huge success and could potentially become even bigger with an accessory like Pokémon Go Plus to help mitigate battery use and divert attention from the screen of the phone to players’ surroundings.
