After four years of development, Prey 2 has finally been brought to an end by Bethesda.

Speaking with CNET, Bethesda vice president Pete Hines elaborated that, “It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it.”

Prey 2, the sequel to a 2006 2K Games Xbox 360 and PC title, was announced in 2011. The game was delayed in 2012 following initial rumors of cancelation. In May 2013, new rumors emerged that development had moved from Human Head to Obsidian and then finally to Dishonored developer Arkane’s Austin location.

The company’s since eluded to the series not being dead yet, but for now the series will apparently see an indefinite retirement.
