Sony has retained its crown after the sales figures for the PS4’s first 48 hours on sale to ensure it keeps the title of biggest UK console launch in the countries history. The previous holder of the title may surprise you a little however!
Once champion, the PS4 passed the PSP (yes, the PlayStation Portable handheld) and its sales of 185,000 units in 2005 by selling an astonishing 250,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale meaning that total sales range around £87 million. Not bad for two days work!
Sources also tell that the Xbox One sold approximately 150,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale although we are not aware of how many Xbox One consoles now live in UK homes.
Is this an initial sign of how the next-generation console war will fight out? With the PS4 already having a good 100,000 gamers choosing it over the Xbox One you can be sure that Sony is feeling a little smug right about now!
