Remedy’s third-person narrative-driven shooter Quantum Break has sold more copies in its opening weekend than any other new Microsoft IP on Microsoft’s Xbox One. Microsoft Studios has not had a game reach this much success in its opening weekend, beating out titles like Sunset Overdrive and Ori & The Blind Forest – both critically acclaimed titles as well.
According to the retail research organization GFK , Quantum Break has placed Microsoft at the top of the charts in the U.K. for the best-selling game. This is Microsoft’s first time leading in 2016, knocking the recently released Dirt Rally to the second position and dethroning Ubisoft’s highly successful The Division after its four-week run at the top spot. You can find out review of The Division here if you’re interested in our take on the new Ubisoft shooter.
As GFK states, this is the first big franchise for Microsoft to top the charts since Halo 5: Guardians – one of Microsoft’s flagship franchises. Unlike Guardians, Quantum Break is a wholly new IP developed by a studio that has made a name for itself in creating unique stories in immersive worlds.
Quantum Break released on April 5, 2016 to critical success. Though Remedy’s latest was first announced as an Xbox One exclusive, it was later revealed that the game would also release for PC exclusively on Windows 10.
