Capcom announced today that the highly anticipated Resident Evil 6 will be released on November 20, 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version will be released at a later, unspecified, date. The new release date is a full six weeks before the previous announced release date.
The events in Resident Evil 6 take place 10 years after Raccoon City and the President of the United States has revealed what really happened, hoping to put a stop to a resurgence in bioterrorist activity. The president suffers from a bioterrorist attack while Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield is in China while they are under bioterrorist attacks. The entire world unites under the common fear that no place is safe.
Resident Evil 6 has series favorites Leon and Chris combine forces to face the new threat. A new cast of characters, with their own perspective about game events, joins the cast.
“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution on the series,” said Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing. “The development team, led by Kiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannon wait to share it with the world.”
Players will be able to start the game as one of three protagonists, Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, or series newcomer, Jake Muller. Each main character will have a companion that will be playable via split-screen or online co-op. In a series first, zombies will be able to wield weapons, dash, and jump.
