Retro City Rampage is set to be released on PS3 and PS Vita in Europe and Asia this Wednesday, 16th January, after a delay of several months.

The 8-bit-style action-adventure game, which pays homage to the original Grand Theft Auto games as well as a slew of other classic video games and movies, was released on the US PlayStation Store – as well as PC – back in October 2012, but only now is the game finally appearing on PS3 and PS Vita in Europe and Asia.

Although no specific reason has been offered for the delay, developer Brian Provinciano told Joystiq that the added time had at least give him the opportunity to add extra polish to the game, although what exactly this “polish” entails is unclear.

Retro City Rampage was also released on Xbox 360 last week and a WiiWare version is set to appear sometime later this month, although no specific release date has been given yet.
