Rise of the Tomb Raider Now Supports DirectX 12

Rise of the Tomb Raider, as of today, supports DirectX 12 on Steam and soon on the Windows 10 Store.

Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Nixxes Software announced the news. With DirectX 12 now being supported, those with high-end graphics cards with low-end CPU’s can now run the game with “higher frame-rates, graphical settings, and other technical enhancements like never before,” according to the press release.

The Studio Head at Nixxes Software (the team behind the update) Jurjen Katsman, goes into further detail about how DirectX 12 improves the game’s performance on the Tomb Raider blog. For example, he compares DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 on an Intel i7-2600 processor with 1333Mhz memory, paired with a GTX 970. While using DirectX 11 at high settings in one location of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the game would only run at 46fps but with DirectX 12, the game runs at 60fps.

The update is now available through NVIDIA’s GEFORCE Game Ready driver.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is now available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The PS4 version will be releasing this Holiday season.
