At this moment of time, there are already so many online competitive shooters available for our enjoyment, that it will be difficult to stay original. Everyone knows the playing style of an online competitive shooter, however, that does not necessarily have to be a problem when a fresh game comes to light, especially when it is a pleasant and versatile game like EA’s Rocket Arena. From experience, I can tell you that enough people still get the same amount of fun from the various games, like Overwatch being the most well known in that genre of games. There are also still studios that can give an original touch to their games, and Final Strike Games is one of them. Here is my Rocket Arena review on PC.

A LOT OF TIME IN CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

EA’s Rocket Arena does not necessarily look original at first glance, however, the animation style of the game is super cheerful and cute, so you have no other choice than to love it. What is immediately noticeable is that the characters are all very different from eachother. In terms of appearance, they actually have nothing in common.

When you start playing, you notice that this not only applies to the appearance, but also to the abilities and playing style. Every time you start with a new character, you notice that you have to play very differently than with the character you played before. One is very quick and can take you to the other side of the playing field in no time and the other has attacks that do a lot of damage right away, so you can take out someone faster.

It is clear that Final Strike Games has spent a lot of time developing the Heroes. Both in appearance and in playability. Every hero has been worked out to perfection. They all have their own character that is clearly visible and abilities that fit in well with that. You also have many options for decorating a character and everything around it.

There are also a lot of different outfits available for each character that you can use to change your look before starting a new game. You get more and more options for this as you reach a higher level. All in all, Final Strike Games and EA’s Rocket Arena distinguishes itself in terms of character development from other games, and not only because everyone uses a rocket as a weapon.

SIMPLE CONTROLS WITH A TOUCH OF CHAOS

The controls are fairly simple, which I personally find very pleasant. This allows you to focus more on the way you play. It all feels very smooth. When you first start the game you will receive a short tutorial. It takes about five minutes to play. That actually should be more than enough to show you how simple the controls are.

Believe me when I tell you that you will quickly master it. What struck me while playing is that I haven’t come across any glitch. That is not common, but it was probably just my luck. At the moment, the teams at both PvP and PvE are still small. Each team consists of only three players.

In the future, the number of players per team is likely to increase. Hopefully, the flexibility of the game will remain intact. The game is cross-platform, so console players can play together with PC gamers. This is a smart move, as it is currently in high demand. I find it difficult to estimate whether it would play as smoothly on the console as on the PC.

There is a lot going on in Final Strike Games and EA’s Rocket Arena, so it sometimes seems a bit chaotic. Especially in certain game modes. This is fairly easy to follow on the PC, but it seems a lot trickier to me on a console. It could be that PC players have an advantage, but that is just my personal opinion.

IT DOESN’T GET BORING QUICKLY

The game currently contains four different game modes. Five if you count the RocketBots mode. The PvE, in which you play against bots in a team of three people, is something that I personally will not play much. Take note that it is very fun to do with friends who don’t know the game yet. This way they can get a little bit of action. But once you know what you’re doing, PvE mode is no longer so interesting.

The PvP game modes, on the other hand, are all entertaining in their own way. There is a game mode in which you have to get a ball into the goal of the enemy team, a mode that revolves around the amount of KOs, a mode in which you have to collect as many coins as possible, and a capture-the-flag-like mode. The more you play, the sooner you will realize which characters you want to play in which game modes.

The strengths and weaknesses of all characters do not make them suitable for every mode, you have to learn each one of them thoroughly. You can make it as difficult or as easy for yourself as you like. For example, if you want a lot of speed, choose Izell. Her special ability is a charge that will take you to the other side of the field in a second.

That is ideal in the ball game mode. If you want to score as many KOs as possible, choose Rev. She easily stays in the air with her glider. This means you are less likely to be blown off the field. In addition, she has a rocket that can be fired very quickly in succession. This way you score a KO earlier. Due to the alternation of the different modes and trying out the characters, the game is certainly not boring.

CONCLUSION

The controls in Final Strike Games and EA’s Rocket Arena are simple and smooth and are clearly explained in a short mandatory tutorial. The teams are still a bit small, consisting only of three people. This is not disturbing because the game is already quite chaotic in itself due to the use of rockets. The game is cross-platform, but it seems easier to play on the PC.

The playable Heroes in Rocket Arena are all very well developed. Each of them is an interesting individual with unique abilities. Take note that you will not get bored easily. The PvE mode isn’t all that exciting yet, however, it is especially fun for beginners. The PvP game modes, on the other hand, are very entertaining and varied.
