Only on Xbox One and PC, however. But that’s a start! Psyonix will release an update today allowing for Xbox One players of the extremely popular sports game, Rocket League, to play against those on PC using the Steam version of the game. Players will get to start duking it out across the different platforms at 3 PM PST / 6 PM EST, today. There is no word on when or if the PS4 version will get the same functionality between Xbox One and PS4 players.
This is the first game to receive cross-platform play for the Xbox One, while Rocket League already enjoy cross-platform experiences between PS4 and PC players. While this is the first, it does not plan to be the last as Microsoft announced back in March that they would be allowing for more games to be cross-network enabled. In order to enable the option, players just need to toggle on or off a box that will select whether they want to play with players across platforms or stay exclusive to their own platform.
Psyonix boasts that nearly 2 million players on Xbox One have competed in Rocket League, which is no surprise. It was our game of the year in 2015, and it has gotten plenty of updates since then including a basketball mode.
