If the latest rumors out of IGN Italy prove true, then Rocksteady Studios might just have its hands full with not one, not two, but three Batman games in the oven…in a way.
According to the site, British developer is bringing its first two Batman games, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, to current-gen consoles, namely Xbox One and Playstation 4, remastered and reimagined with all-new visuals. Sorry, Arkham Origins.
Though it’s unknown just how good these remasters are intended to look from their previous iterations, 1080p and 60 fps has been the target goals for its remastered peers as of late, The Last of Us and God of War III included. Should the remastered Arkham games be confirmed, they’d likely come sometime after Rocksteady’s intended release date for Batman: Arkham Knight this June.
The remasters will reportedly be for the same systems as Arkham Knight later this year, coming out first for Xbox One and Playstation 4, with a later PC port.
The third and final chapter of their Arkham trilogy, not counting Warner Bros. Montreal’s prequel of Batman: Arkham Origins, Arkham Knight closes the Arkham universe as the series’ most mature Batman title yet as Gotham’s Dark Knight faces off with the Scarecrow, possibly for the last time if popular theories prove true. Scarecrow, who also appeared in Arkham Asylum, would seemingly tie the trilogy together on one platform if we get these remasters.
Given the narrow time frame between Arkham Knight and its predecessors’ possible remasters, we don’t know whether there’ll be any sort of current-gen bundles of all three, but it wouldn’t be too unlikely given Master Chief and Xbox’s recent reunion.
Rocksteady’s last promised us that we can be the Batman this June 23rd and for now, we’ll keep them at their word.
