Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was just recently released on Blu-ray this past Tuesday, but Disney isn’t giving much time to rewatch the film a lot. Instead, after last night’s sudden teaser that a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer was going to be released, they followed through with a full-length “teaser trailer”.
The trailer is definitely a teaser as it gives very little in the way of plot, and really just acts as a showcase for some of the great actors they have on board. Felicity Jones will leading the cast of Rebels as they set out to steal the plans for the original Death Star. We get a look at some of the other actors that will be making their Star Wars debuts, as well. My personal favourites are Donnie Yen (Ip Man) who gets to show off one of the only action sequences in the teaser and Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Killing Them Softly).
The film is being directed by Gareth Edwards who is best known for Godzilla, which came out in 2014. This is part of the annual release strategy that the team responsible for bringing back Star Wars are utilizing. Next year will see the release of Star Wars Episode VIII. For now, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story can be seen in theaters on December 16, 2016.
