<p>Atari has announced that the latest title in the long running RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise is coming to the App Store this spring. RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile will cost $3 at launch and will include 20 pre-designed coasters along with a whole host of new attractions. Making the most of it&#8217;s platform, the game will come with a large variety of social features including Facebook and Game Centre support. It will also give players the option to trade rollecoaster blueprints as well as compete with each other in the online leaderboards.</p>
<p>The last main game in the franchise was RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 which was released on PC a decade ago in 2004. Atari did also release Nspace&#8217;s RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D for the 3DS is 2012, but the game was widely panned by reviewers. This latest title comes from little known indie developer ON5. Whether the franchise creator, Chris Sawyer, will be involved is yet to be confirmed.</p>
<p>Whilst no more details have been announced, the low base price of the game suggests that micro transactions will feature heavily. As a long time fan of the franchise this concerns me and I am not the only one. Fans have taken to Atari&#8217;s Facebook and Twitter pages to voice their anger at the series shift to mobile platforms. Yet not all hope is lost. On the company&#8217;s official Twitter page an Atari spokesman stated that &#8221;rest assured, there is a PC experience in production now for release this year.&#8221;</p>
<p>The trouble is that I am not entirely sure what they mean by PC &#8216;experience&#8217; If this is referring to a full fledged sequel to be released alongside the mobile version then I will be very happy. Yet ever the pessimist what I expect is that this experience will merely be a Steam or browser version of the mobile game, complete with all its microtransaction goodness. Prove me wrong Atari. Please.</p>
