It’s long been suggested that Dark Souls developer From Software has been quietly working with Sony Computer Entertainment Japan on a secret project behind closed doors. Now, new images may have leaked some of it in its entirety.
Random images of something ominously dubbed “Project Beast” were posted last yesterday by 4chan and NeoGAF was quick to follow up on the post as user JPS Kai recently added three additional images.
T4chan post describes what appears to be a character engaged in the usual Dark Souls fare: walking around and fighting enemies. A “giant mindflayer type” enemy is said to appear along with a peculiar character placing shining magic into a pedestal at the base of a statue. From there, a “huge pyromancy fireball” and “shotguns,” rain down ammo as foreboding text reads, “This is a nightmare.”
The curious news follows the teasing of one particular Sony employee by the name of Demonnite, well known for playing coy with fans on NeoGAF. of he had further claiming in June that “TGS will be a beast of a show,” seemingly implying that the game was originally intended for a Tokyo Game Show debut.
The designer also hinted at a not-Dark Souls game back in January, saying his next project would “be a whole different beast.” When told by a fan declaring that The Last Guardian would be a “beast,” he responded in kind, saying “If you put it that way, there are 2 beasts then.”
Alas, we’ll no doubt have more days ahead of us before a formal reveal and Project Beast may just have to stay chained in the rumor mill for the moment until we hear further word. In the meantime, check out all of the screenshots down below. Does it strike a Dark Soul chord to any of you?
