Rumor: Homefront 2 Will Be Revealed Next Week

Crytek paid only $500,000 for the rights to Homefront 2

Gaming insider Shinobi602 has hinted on twitter that Crytek is about to pull back the curtains on Homefront 2. After buying the IP from THQ back in January 2013, Crytek is now both the developer and the publisher for the title. It is currently in production at Crytek’s UK studio which was formerly known as Free Radical Design, famous for the beloved Timesplitters franchise.

Crytek will be feeling slightly nervous about Homefront 2 as the series does not have a good history. The original game was intended to be THQ’s massive FPS franchise to rival Activision’s Call of Duty and EA’s Battlefield. The company’s executives hoped that this new IP could achieve the same level of success as its rivals and help THQ out of its financial difficulties. Unfortunately, that is not what happened. Despite the game’s huge budget and a massive marketing campaign it only managed to ship 2.6 million copies, leading to developer Kaos Studios being closed down.

Homefront 2 was originally set for a 2015 release date but Crytek has warned that this might no longer be the case. The game will use the CryEngine and is rumoured to be for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
