With the release of Mewtwo for Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo may have let slip a few characters–Ryu and Roy–in the 3DS version’s code.
According to shinyquagsire23 on Reddit, he was able to find code within the game’s newest update for the sound files of both Ryu and Roy.

The most likely Ryu to appear is from Street Fighter, and Roy has previously been a character in Super Smash Bros Melee. Ryu has appeared multiple times on Nintendo systems, including Street Fighter II/III, Street Fighter IV on 3DS, Project X Zone, Tatsunuko vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars, and SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS has already referenced a signature Ryu attack in Marvel vs Capcom 2, with Megaman’s shoryuken.
