Another Sad Day For Silicone Knights

<p>Earlier this year developer Silicon Knights was hit with a heavy legal loss&comma; when in May&comma; Epic Games received &dollar;4&period;45M in damages and <strong><a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;gamasutra&period;com&sol;view&sol;news&sol;171362&sol;Epic&lowbar;prevails&lowbar;in&lowbar;suit&lowbar;against&lowbar;Silicon&lowbar;Knights&lowbar;receives&lowbar;445M&lowbar;in&lowbar;damages&period;php&num;&period;UJ7eEofLRzV">was found victorious in its case against Silicon Knights<&sol;a><&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Silicon Knights claimed that the Developer had been &&num;8220&semi;sabotaging efforts by Silicon Knights and others to develop their own video games&&num;8221&semi;&period; These claims came when Silicon Knights released their action-RPG <em>&&num;8220&semi;Too Human&&num;8221&semi; <&sol;em>to poor critical reception&comma; and stated that the Unreal Engine 3 was the cause of several mishaps during the development cycle&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Now Silicon Knights has been ordered by the court to remove and destroy any and all of Epic&&num;8217&semi;s &&num;8220&semi;Unreal&&num;8221&semi; technology from their own proprietary game engine&comma; and they must destroy all of the previous iterations of their own Silicon Knights engine&period; Additionally Silicon Knights &&num;8220&semi;&&num;8230&semi;must recall and destroy all unsold copies of its <em>Too Human<&sol;em> and <em>X-Men&colon; Destiny<&sol;em> titles&comma; and must destroy any code done on the unreleased &lpar;and until now&comma; unannounced&rpar; titles <em>The Box&sol;Ritualyst<&sol;em>&comma; <em>The Sandman<&sol;em>&comma; and <em>Siren in the Maelstrom<&sol;em>&period;&&num;8221&semi;&comma; once they have completed this Epic Games will be allowed to &&num;8220&semi;independently verify that Silicon Knights&&num;8217&semi;s game engine no longer contains any of Epic Games&&num;8217&semi;s Licensed Technology&comma;&&num;8221&semi;&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>It is believed that at this time Silicon Knights consists of &comma; at most five employees&comma; which would bring up the question &&num;8220&semi;How will they stay afloat&quest;&&num;8221&semi;&period; Silicon Knights currently owes Epic Games a total of &dollar;9&period;2 million&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&lbrack;Via <a href&equals;"http&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;gamasutra&period;com&sol;view&sol;news&sol;181262&sol;Silicon&lowbar;Knights&lowbar;ordered&lowbar;to&lowbar;destroy&lowbar;code&lowbar;games&lowbar;related&lowbar;to&lowbar;Epic&lowbar;trial&period;php&num;&period;UJ7lLofLRzV">Gamasutra<&sol;a>&rsqb;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
