1999’s first-person sci-fi horror classic System Shock 2 is now available through digital distributor GOG.com.

Co-developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios, System Shock 2 was designed by Ken Levine, who would go on to lead the creation of the highly acclaimed BioShock, a game which is considered a spiritual successor to the System Shock series.

The game blended first-person action with disturbing horror and in-depth RPG elements, creating a hybrid style which would become very influential in terms of video game design, particularly in the first-person shooter genre.

System Shock 2 allows the player to play with up to three friends co-operatively, and those who purchase the game via GOG.com will receive free bonus content such as the game’s soundtrack, several pieces of artwork, the original pitch document, and a recording of a radio interview with Ken Levine.

System Shock 2 is available at GOG.com at a price of $9.99 and is compatible with Windows 7, 8, Vista, and XP.
