Shuhei Yoshida Wants Every PS4 Game Available As A Digital Download

With the sudden flourish of PlayStation 4 news, you can be forgiven in being unable to tell the difference of a confirmed feature and a rumored feature of Sony’s next generation console, the PlayStation 4, which was announced last week.

Speaking to The Guardian in a recent interview, Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios) stated the following:

“We’re shifting our platform more and more to the digital side – PS4 will be similar to PS Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc.”

What does this mean? As Nintendo is currently trying to implement with both its platforms, the Wii U and 3DS, we can expect to see many games which are available to purchase at brick-and-mortar stores available in the company’s digital store, creating an easy way to top-up your game library at any given moment.

Whilst pricing wasn’t confirmed or even discussed during the interview, it would be interesting to see if Sony follows a similar path taken by Nintendo in charging much higher prices for digital content compared to that of RRP (recommend retail pricing).

Are you for or against a digital future in games? Especially when considering that all of your PS3 game saves and PSN content WILL NOT be functional on your new PS4 console…
