A member of the original development team for the Silent Hill trilogy has expressed his disappointment of the upcoming HD re-release of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3.
Destructoid reported that Masahiro Ito, who was the art director of the first three Silent Hill games, was asked via Twitter to comment on screen shot comparisons of the PlayStation 2 original and the new HD versions. In the images, missing textures of fog expose the unfinished sections of the environment.
“Left side is HD, isn’t it? It’s poor,” Ito wrote. “It’s really a released version? Really?”
After receiving confirmation that the image was from the retail disc of the game, Ito’s simple reply was “OMG!”
Ito later added that Konami needed to “release a patch for HD collection, I think.” He later speculated that the texturing issue may lie within the technology of the PlayStation 3. “I guess that it was a problem of PS3. PS3 has a weak point for using ‘translucent texture’,” he wrote. “But PS2 has no such a weak point, and original SH2/SH3 use so many ‘translucent texture’. Example, for fog/mist.”
The Silent Hill: HD Collection launched earlier this month in the United States and will release in Europe on March 29th.
