The 2016 Android slasher inspired puzzle game, Slayaway Camp has since seen releases on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The previous console versions debuted with the Butcher’s Cut moniker. This enhanced version of the violent puzzle game is making its way to the Nintendo Switch at an unspecified date this March. The Switch version features touch controls in the handheld mode as well as an optional “PG Mode” for those that want a blood and gore-free puzzling experience.

Slayaway Camp was developer Blue Wizard Digital’s debut game title. Blue Wizard is an indie studio founded by Jason Kapalka, PopCap co-founder. Jason Kapalka has previously worked on Peggle and BejeweledSlayaway Camp features voice talent from Mark Meer (Commander Shepard)  and Derek Mears (2009 Jason Voorhees).

The console only Butcher’s Cut edition includes the base game along with seven add-on content packs: My Gory Valentine, Deluxe Edition, HellCamp, Monthly Murderers Series 1 & 2, Santa’s Slay and Supernatural Forces. This package features more than 300 levels and over 60 killers. The soundtrack is composed by GNÜ TRUNTION, a Canadian hair-metal band. Slayaway Camp left the recent annual Google Play Indie Games Festival as the overall winner.

The isometric puzzle game inspired by the likes of 80’s slasher films has received unanimous praise across each platform it has launched on. With a 4.9 out of 5-star rating on the Google Play store and a 9/10 Steam user review average, Slayaway Camp has become a runaway success. A sequel titled Friday The 13th: Killer Puzzle is slated for release on April 13th on Steam. While the original had you playing as killers that resemble popular slasher villains, this follow up is an officially branded Friday The 13th game, allowing players to control the real Jason Voorhees. If you can’t wait until April, the game is currently available for free on the iOS App Store.
