The world of casinos can be a little daunting, especially if you’re fairly new to it all. It doesn’t matter if you head out to a brick-and-mortar casino or log on to an online one, one thing you can be sure of finding is casino lingo. Putting aside the trickier games you might come across, we’re going to focus on one of the most popular games in any casino – slots.

The latest casino slots not only have a wide selection of games, but they also include a lot of lingo. Some of it can be a little bit confusing, especially when there are decisions to make! You don’t want to mindlessly gamble your money away so here is all the terminology you need to play on the slots.

It may all seem a little complicated but it’s not…

All ways – These are types of online slot machines that have hundreds of pay lines that run in every direction.

Auto spin – By enabling this feature you can set your slot to spin a number of times automatically for you. That way you don’t need to hit spin constantly and you can just sit back and relax.

AWP – This stands for Amusements With Prizes. These types of slots must provide some level of player interaction. The game, however, does not depend on skill and it is all down to luck.

Bonus round – A feature in the slot game that provides additional free games of cash prizes.

Cascading reels – This bonus feature is one to look out for. With cascading reels, the winning pay lines then rotate to the next symbol giving you the chance to win more from a single spin.

Doubles – When a symbol comes up more than once in a spin, generating double or nearly triple the amount of money won.

Expanding wilds – One of the best types of wild. When this wild appears it will spread to cover the entire reel, or even all the reels.

Free spin – An additional spin which is offered by the slot machine.

Hit and run – When someone plays on a particular slot machine a couple of times before winning and leaving.

Jackpot – Winning the highest amount of money that the slot can pay out.

Line bet – A line bet refers to the activated pay lines on a multiple pay line slot. There is usually a minimum bet to activate all lines.

Nudge – When the slot allows the user to nudge one reel to the next symbol to try and create a winning combination.

RNG – A random number generator is when a computer selects a single or range of numbers completely at random.

Skill bonus – This is where the slot offers a bonus which requires some skill from the player, for example, a shooting game.

TITO – This stands for Ticket In Ticket Out, where a machine does not accept cash. Instead, you will have to go to a cash desk and make a deposit. You will then receive a ticket for you to play the game with.

Wild symbol slots – These wild symbols replace winning symbols in these slots so that you have more opportunities to win.
