Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time Demo Impression

After picking up the Ratchet and Clank Collection, I decided to check out the Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time demo.

The mission included has Sly navigating a deadly circus in order to save a fellow Cooper, Sir Galleth. At the start of the demo, Murray gives you the run down on how to approach the mission. In short, stay off the ground since it is covered with motion sensors. In order to do this, you put on a Robin Hood-esque costume, granting Sly the ability to shoot arrows to create a tight rope. Naturally, the challenge of hitting your target gets more difficult as you progress through the level, but it is always satisfying nailing a bull’s-eye. First the targets will move, but then there will be canon shots that must be avoided. It’s not too difficult, since you have the ability to control the arrow in mid-air.

Navigating Sly around the level is just as smooth as his earlier games. Not once did his jump feel too floaty or too heavy, it was just right. You have your classic move where you jump in the air and hit circle to balance on tight ropes or small objects. You also have your dive attack, in order to break crates and to be used in combat (which was not showcased in the demo).

The demo ends with a funny conversation between Sly and Sir Galleth. Overall, Sanzaru Games captured the feel of the older Sly Cooper games. The dialog is funny, the graphics are wonderfully cell-shaded, the level layout was great, and the controls were smooth.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is slated for a February 2013 release for the PlayStation 3 and the Playstation Vita.
