Solo Developer Releases Murder Mystery – Alaska

The latest release from Wreck Tangle Games, a development studio comprising of a sole individual, is Alaska. This story-driven game from the mind of Orion Moon centers around a murder mystery. Alaska gives players a week to experience the life of a small town Alaskan man in the mountains. With the town only housing five families, the game begins intimately before the second half turns into a murder mystery.

The protagonist, Blake, spends the first half of the game living his day-to-day. This day to day includes activities like ice skating and fishing until a body is discovered on the town’s airstrip. These tonally disparate halves are supposed to lull the player into a false sense of security before introducing the proper narrative impetus.

Alaska emphasizes character interactions. In this attempt to connect with the town’s inhabitants, Orion Moon wants players to bond and feel the pain expressed by characters. Challenges in the form of mini-games are found throughout the game world. Some of these challenges include hunting, fishing, and chainsawing a tree. Alaska is available for $7.99 on GameJolt and Steam.

Alaska, Wreck Tangle Games

Alaska currently has only one user review on Steam with a recommended rating. User Takeo states, “The gameplay is pretty much nonexistent with the exception of some hard mini-games“. The user concludes his review by stating, “The character interactions are where this game shine. Some of the dialogue and twists really grabbed hold of me. This game gets really dark and with pretty depressing stuff. It is by no means a perfect game but it surely has character. I think I spent my money well“.
