Last night at SXSW, it was finally unveiled that Sonic Forces would be the name of the codenamed Sonic game, Project Sonic 2017. Sega then proceeded to show off gameplay from the new entry, which you can watch below. The game will arrive this Holiday 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
In the gameplay clip, you can see a city being attacked by a giant Death Egg Robot and many Death Egg Robot sentinels in Sonic’s way as he tries to go as fast as he can. The game looks great, with a new version of the Hedgehog Engine that was used previously in Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. The gameplay also looks very familiar and seems to handle smoothly. Very much an updated version of classic Sonic games.
As for the story and what is happening, Eggman has seemingly taken over the world. As the lead-up to launch continues, Sega will unveil more information regarding how this happened and what Sonic’s plans are to dismantle his operation. I’m pretty excited to see a Sonic game set in a war-torn world.
