Sony has purchased the online cloud based gaming service Gaikai for 380 million. There were many rumors about Sony looking to get involved with a cloud based service. But no one thought they would straight up buy the service. And the other question is how did Sony get the money to buy Gaikai for 380 million.
It’s no secret that Sony is currently in financial trouble. So you would have to wonder. How much are they looking to invest in cloud gaming? The idea of playing PS3 games on the likes of an ipad our Iphone perhaps is not as far of a stretch as we thought.
“SCE will deliver a world-class cloud-streaming service that allows users to instantly enjoy a broad array of content ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content anytime, anywhere on a variety of internet-connected devices.”
The CEO of Gaikai, David Perry, said:
“SCE has built an incredible brand with PlayStation and has earned the respect of countless millions of gamers worldwide. We’re honored to be able to help SCE rapidly harness the power of the interactive cloud and to continue to grow their ecosystem, to empower developers with new capabilities, to dramatically improve the reach of exciting content and to bring breathtaking new experiences to users worldwide.”
It is still unknown the exact plans behind this move. We can only speculate on what they could possibly be planning in the long run. What do you think viewers?
