Sony still behind competitors in console race

Sony have announced the latest figure regarding how many PlayStation 3 consoles they have shipped to stores worldwide.

As of 4th November 2012, Sony reached the amazing milestone of 70 million consoles within the six year period since it originally launched in November 2006. Whilst this figure is pretty amazing considering you had to remortgage your house to buy one at launch it is still behind Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii.

As of September 2012, Microsoft had sold 70 million Xbox 360 consoles so we can assume that that figure has increased a lot since due to reasons such as Halo 4 being launched earlier this month.

The Nintendo Wii however has sold 97.18 million units, clearly destroying the competition.

How many of the “current-gen” consoles do you own?
