PSN service restoration will begin on Sunday in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East with the roll-out of the mandatory update. But services in Japan and throughout Asia would still be down and should be up shortly said company sources. Sony also announced that it was implementing “aggressive action” to prevent and resolve security holes that allowed the attack and is stepping up consumer protection services to prevent further customer data leaks. Sony also announced they would be sending a “welcome back” package for the inconvenience to users and that it will include “premium content.”

The light at the end of the tunnel is finally getting brighter for Playstation 3 users. Yesterday, news broke that Sony would release a mandatory software update for all Playstation 3 users. This update would bring the Playstation Network back online in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.
The silver lining is that this a phased restoration and it may still take some time before users have full functionally of the Playstation Network and access to Sony’s online videogame services. This is however a huge step forward a beleaguered network and company that has been plagued ever since the cyber attack took them down over a month ago and shut off internet based services and compromised personal information of over 100 million customers.
