A recently revealed PlayStation 3 hack has forced Sony to come forward and release an official statement regarding the use of such on their systems.

In a statement, the company stated that “unauthorized software” is a violation of the companies’ terms of service and that users who are caught running the hack face steep penalties.

Not only will those found running the hack have their access to the PlayStation Network banned but also access to any services operating through the Sony Entertainment Network on a permanent basis.

When defending the penalty, Sony said it was,

“born of a desire to foster a ‘safe’ and ’fair’ online environment for PS3 users”
