Sony has decided not to renew it’s sponsorship contract with football’s global governing body, FIFA. The company has been a major sponsor of the organisation since 2006, a contract that has cost them $348.7 million. Sony is worried that the costs on sponsorship will rise over the next few years, a rise they won’t be able to afford in their current financial state.

Their decision may also be based on FIFA’s declining image. The organisation is currently embroiled in a corruption scandal over its decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. What’s more, numerous investigations have revealed that Qatar is using slave labor to build the necessary stadiums. Many slaves have already died during construction because of poor working conditions.
