Crystal Dynamics, developer of the Tomb Raider series, is reportedly working on a reboot of the Legacy of Kain series; more specifically on a re-tooled Soul Reaver, according to an anonymous source. The reboot will embrace a new art direction, but no further details have been provided at this time.
Conflicting reports have emerged concerning when the potential reboot will be officially revealed. VG247 has heard the plan was for the initial look to come in 2012, “possibly at E3,” more recent sources have indicated that may not actually be the case. Crystal Dynamics appears to have a big E3 ahead, with the Tome Raider reboot getting released some time later in 2012.
The Legacy of Kain series has not seen a proper new release since 2003’s PS2/Xbox/PC game Legacy of Kain: Defiance. If the reveal happened in 2013, that would mean a decade since the previous Kain game. If the reboot released in 2014, that would mark the 15-year anniversary since Soul Reaver’s launch.
