The cult classic samurai adventure series Onimusha has been lying dormant for over half a decade now after instalment number 4, Dawn Of Dreams. Popular with critics, insanely popular with its fans and Capcom’s sixth biggest franchise (with 7.6 million copies sold worldwide); it’s fallen by the wayside as of late thanks to nobody making any games for the series.

Well, if rumours are to be believed, that won’t be for much longer. According to UK games magazine PSM3, the series may be getting a fifth official entry. This one being handled by the folks at Spark Unlimited, best known so far for Call Of Duty: Finest Hour (the PS2 CoD, if you’re wondering), Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty and Legendary.

If you hardcore Onimusha fans are weeping at that prospect, then maybe you’ll want to hold off on those tears for Spark have experience with rescuing Capcom series that people had previously written off as not having a chance at a half decent comeback. They’re currently handling Lost Planet 3, which is actually shaping up to be half decent. Plus, Team Ninja have handed the reins of the upcoming Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z to them, too.

Now, none of this is confirmed (there’s a reason why I specified “rumour” earlier on), but it might not be so bad if it was. What say you, readers? Want an Onimusha comeback now, or have it held off and handed to somebody more proven?
