Splatoon 2 Direct Unleashes A Load Of New Details

Splatoon 2, Nintendo

Nintendo just released a new Direct for Splatoon 2, and in it, they detailed a lot of new information for the upcoming Switch shooter. The game is releasing on July 21 for the Switch and is easily one of the most anticipated new releases for Nintendo’s new system.

<amp-youtube layout="responsive" width="500" height="281" data-videoid="qN4w5D2tzME" title="Splatoon 2 - Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 Trailer"></amp-youtube>

The Direct covered many of the basics that players need to know. It welcomed everyone back to Inkopolis, and proceeded to go over the new vendors that players would be visiting, such as Flow, a hippy sea slug that specializes in hats. As in the first game, there are hats, shoes, and clothing that can be purchased by players, and these all have stats that affect players, and part of the strategy is finding gear that works with your play style.

Weapons were also shown off, and a key feature is that all the classics that players know and love from the first game, like the Splatter Shot, now have alternate modes attached to them. The Splatter Shot, for instance, has a sort of side step that players can utilize to quickly get out of the line of fire. There are a number of new main weapons, and new sub-weapons, but the craziest ones have to be the special weapons. These are overpowered weapons that one would assume only are used once a game, but pack a serious punch. One particularly cool looking weapon was the Splashdown, which looked a lot like a Titan’s Fist of Havoc super from Destiny. Overall there are a lot of twists to old favorites, and new guns that look to add a lot of variety to Splatoon 2.

<figure id="attachment_127232" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-127232" style="width: Nintendo

As for modes in Splatoon 2, there is a new single player mode, much like the first, where players take on the Octatarians. The single player was great for teaching players the basics but also had some great level design and was a good experience, and one would hope for some interesting boss designs for the new game. As for PVP, in unranked, there is Turf War, the regular back and forth PVP mode where teams try and cover the map with as much ink as they can. A number of new maps were shown off, such as a concert and a race track, but also a number of maps from the first Splatoon were shown off, like Moray Towers. Ranked also returns, with Tower Control, Splat Zones, and Rain Maker, but what is interesting is that Splatoon 2 now keeps ranks for all 3 modes separate. There is also a new League Play mode, where you compete in short mini-seasons basically, and when they are over you earn medals based on how you ranked.

Finally, one of the most important questions was answered in how players would communicate, and SplatNet 2 is the app coming from Nintendo for the game. It appears it will be launching alongside the Nintendo Switch Online app, and it will be used for keeping track of stats, for checking out gear and even buying gear, but also setting up party chat for your team, but only for those on your friends list. It still seems overly convoluted but it will be interesting to try out and see how Nintendo handles voice chat for Splatoon 2.

<figure id="attachment_127233" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-127233" style="width: Nintendo

There was even more shown, such as new Amiibo on the way, new guns and maps in development, and the new hosts Pearl and Marina. They introduced the return of Splat Fests and speaking of which, there will be one on July 15, from 3 to 7 pm PST, which will let players try out the game one last time before launch. There’s a ton of new content coming to Splatoon 2, and while the voice chat still seems to be a hiccup, the game is looking like it will be a great deal of fun. Will you be trying out the first Splat Fest, are you picking up the game later this month? Let us know in the comments below and come back to Bago for all your Splatoon 2 news.

Source –
