Square Enix will return to E3 this year with a game showcase on June 11 at 10:00 AM PDT. The Japan-based video game publisher has not held a major E3 conference since 2015. Square Enix has not officially revealed any of the games to be discussed at this event, but we can make some educated guesses.
What We Can Expect
The Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 are sure-fire bets for appearing at this showcase. Square has been careful about revealing details regarding both of these games, so now would be the time to go all out. Odds are that any new Kingdom Hearts 3 footage will focus on worlds from Pixar films. Ever since the announcement of the remake, there have been hints that the development has not been perfectly smooth. New footage, especially gameplay, would give us a better idea of how Square is updating FF VII for modern tastes. Aside from that two jRPGs, Microsoft or Square will cover the recently revealed Shadow of the Tomb Raider. If Microsoft’s event covers the bulk of new Shadow of the Tomb Raider details, Square will still reiterate or add to those details in their showcase.
What I Hope For
After the critical and financial success of NieR: Automata we’ll probably get a hint of Yoko Taro’s next project. It doesn’t have to be a Drakengard or NieR, just knowing that another Taro story is coming would be enough. Speaking of stories, Life is Strange 2 has not had any trailers so that might show up here. I’m hoping for some more footage of The World Ends With You: Final Remix which could show up here or on Nintendo’s stream. Speaking of re-releases, I’d say we were due for another HD remastering of an old Final Fantasy game. My suspicions lean towards FF IX. Or maybe they’ll have a remake of another game, Square has quite the library of games to pull from. Gameplay of Left Alive, the game set in the Front Mission universe, would help us know what to expect from that game. Square Enix has a lot of potentially interesting and exciting games on the horizon. Hopefully, they use this event to capitalize on that potential.
You will able to live stream the Square Enix E3 Showcase on Youtube, Twitch, and Mixer on June 11 at 10:00 AM PDT, 1:00 PM EDT, and 6:00 PM BST.
