Quickly after the reveal of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Square Enix Japan began teasing a new game Thursday, and it might be a new Star Ocean game.
Not much is on this teaser site, however; but it includes “Sar” with a space in between “01 01” and an ocean below. Square Enix is also using the hashtag, “#sqex_secret.” This may lead to the thought that a new Star Ocean game is on the way, as the word star–and the picture behind of an ocean–links to the series name.
When Tetsuya Nomura left Final Fantasy XV as creative director, he told Famitsu (via Kotaku), “I get bored working on just one thing for a long time, and I tend to like working on all sorts of different projects.” Nomura is currently developing Kingdom Hearts III, and has been known for working on multiple projects at once. These different projects include Play Arts figure designs, but he also said in the interview that he is “Of course […] making games as well.”
Yosuke Matsuda, the CEO of Square Enix, previously teased that an unannounced console JRPG would be coming this fiscal year to Nikkei Trendy (via Gematsu).
The last Star Ocean title released in North America and Europe was Star Ocean: The Last Hope in 2010.
