E3 2015: Star Fox Zero Revealed

By the gods, how long has it been since our last Star Fox game? 2006 with Star Fox Command? Let’s try a good game; Star Fox Assault in 2005. It’s been an entire decade since our last good Star Fox game, and that’s sad. Is this what the Kid Icarus fans felt like when Kid Icarus: Uprising came out for the Nintendo 3DS? Star Fox is one of Nintendo’s best IPs, along with Super Mario and the Legend of Zelda. After many moons, Nintendo has finally heard our cries, and answered with the newest installment in the Star Fox series: “Star Fox: Zero“. This title has been revealed to be an exclusive to the Nintendo Wii U, and is expected to release Holiday 2015.

The trailer is completely gameplay, and starts out with Fox in his signature Arwing right outside the orbit of Corneria. The Arwing has a beautiful remastered design that takes after its look from Star Fox 64. We see out first level in what looks completely like a remastered version of Corneria from Star Fox 64 (or 3D if you want to be technical). The real breath taker in Star Fox Zero is that there’s going to be a wide range of transformations for the Arwing and Landmaster. The Arwing will be able to turn into the Walker, (which was an ability from Star Fox 2 – an unreleased Star Fox game) and even something like a helicopter. The Landmaster can also transform into a ship-like vehicle, so that kind of makes it a land and sky master, right?

At the very end, we see Star Fox command his squad to enter All Range Mode and take the offensive. We even get to see a small clip of a Star Wolf battle with Fox shooting down Pigma. The Nintendo CEO also points out how important it will be to use the gamepad’s gyro controls in Star Fox Zero, which is what he was really hoping to do, and he’s very excited about it. They also revealed that it’s not a sequel nor a reboot.

You can watch the gameplay above!
