Sorry kids, it appears that adjustable plastic components are too much for you to handle. An Arwing themed amiibo will not launch alongside Star Fox Zero on April 22nd.

“We did have a few prototypes. There was an Arwing amiibo that transforms into the Walker, but we weren’t able to turn that into a product that could meet safety guidelines for children,” Miyamoto explained in a translated interview with Jose Otero of IGN.

During a past interview with IGN, Miyamoto talked about the creation of a transforming Arwing amiibo back at E3 2015.

“ . . .Earlier, we talked about how the 3D model of the Arwing will actually transform [into a two-legged Walker] in the game. We have an actual model and we’re thinking how much it would actually cost to make when it’s transformable. Can we actually do that? We’re thinking about a lot of different things right now,” Miyamoto said at last year’s E3 conference.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Nintendo will not be able to release a transforming Arwing Amiibo. At the very last, we will be getting an additional game bundled with Star Fox Zero, as announced during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct.
