Star Wars: Battlefront Revisits the Classic Trilogy

DICE LA is revisiting the biggest and best battlefronts from a galaxy far, far away. Hoth, the iconic snow planet from The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi’s Endor, have been confirmed as your newest playgrounds of mayhem and destruction.

During EA’s press conference, DICE humbly showcased a bit of what to expect from the Frostbite Engine 3-powered multiplayer shooter and just how much the team is trying to achieve a high level of quality and authenticity.

Visiting the LucasFilm Archives at Skywalker Ranch “to capture the actual models and props used in the movies,” the studio hopes to “not just to capture the environments, but the emotions they invoke as well.” So far, the latest Star Wars Battlefront is looking “truly spectacular” according to its developers, though no known release date is on the horizon until “spring of 2015.”

From what early footage was gathered above, the usual suspects of Rebel  snowspeeders, Imperial AT-STs, speeder bikes, and the standard cronies of Stormtroopers and Rebel Alliance soldiers can be seen in early in-engine footage, including one fancy speeder bike prototype chase.

Battlefront is one of many Star Wars games EA plans to make over the next decade. Visceral’s mystery Star Wars game, penned by ex-Naughty Dog director Amy Hennig and Todd Stashwick, is expected to follow at any given date.

Star Wars: Battlefront is assumed to release for the new-gen consoles of PS4 and X-Box One at an undisclosed date.
