Star Wars: Legion Arrives March 22 With Plenty of Launch Activities

Star Wars: Legion, Fantasy Flight Games

Over a year ago, Fantasy Flight Games ended its partnership with Games Workshop. The two had worked together on a number of great card games and board games based on the Games Workshop properties, especially their Warhammer 40k series. Recently it was announced that Games Workshop had signed a deal with WizKids to make some new board games and card games, but what was part of the reason for the ending of the relationship between Fantasy Flight Games and Games Workshop? Well, it’s Star Wars: Legion of course, and it’s hitting stores in a matter of weeks.

Last year Fantasy Flight Games showed off Star Wars: Legion, it’s newest miniatures game based on the Star Wars franchise. Fantasy Flight has a number of Star Wars minis, and X-Wing is easily one of the most popular tabletop miniature games in the world. They do have one game, Imperial Assault, that has miniature figures that you control, but the game is more of a dungeon crawler than a full-on tabletop war game. Legion is the war game that Star Wars players have been hoping for, and so far it looks great.

The game releases on March 22, with a core set that contains enough Imperials and Rebels to start building your armies and playing some smaller skirmish style games. There will be a number of other figures released alongside, so you can bulk up your army of choice with more troops, or things like a T-47 Snowspeeder or even a massive AT-ST. Fantasy Flight has announced as well a number of launch weekend activities that you should check out your local games store for. The activities range from cracking open your box and assembling figures to trying out smaller scale games to get a feel for the rules. All those that participate will receive commemorative prizes, and winners of battles will even walk away with art prints.

If you’re a Star Wars fan, or a tabletop gamer and want to check out a great new game, Star Wars: Legion should be on your radar. The figures look great, the rules that were recently released are clean and concise, and it looks like FFG has another winner on their hands. See you on the battlefield!
