Funcom has announced that its Modern Day, All-Conspiracies-Are-True MMO, The Secret World, is going through a few changes. Paying for a subscription is now optional, and will get you a few bonuses, but is ultimately unneeded. Pay Once, Play Forever.

“This means that after buying the game you can play all of the heralded story-line and all content available right now without a paying a monthly fee.”

Retailing at the low price of $30, those that invest in The Secret World before the end of the month will receive all of the content in the game’s upcoming Issue #5 DLC (instead of having to wait for it to launch in January), as well as the Initiate Starter Pack; which contains a Blood Raven Pet, better starting weapons and extra in-game clothing. A new monthly membership ($15/m) has also been added that comes with several perks, such as:

Time Accelerator (Clickable item which increases experience gain for defeating monsters by 100% for 1 hour, 16 hour cool-down – only usable by Members and Grand Masters)

$10 worth of Bonus Points (given out every month)

Item-of-the-month gift (given out every month)

10% discount to everything in the in-game store. Grand Masters, however, will see a 20% discount to all of the items in the in-game store.

Furthermore, throughout the month of December, Funcom is running a special offer where they take 30% off on the first purchase on the 3, 6 and 12 month Memberships.
