Super Mario 3D World: Struggling Already In Japan?

Super Mario 3D World

With sales of Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Wii U, being in big trouble for quite some time now, Nintendo must be pinning all hopes on this Christmas’ Super Mario 3D World to actually sell some units of hardware and inject some life into its struggling console.

If the sales in Japan are to be repeated in North America and Europe however, then it may struggle to do just that.

In its first week on sale, Super Mario 3D World sold around 99,588 units which may initially sound fantastic but when you see that the game that beat it to the top of the charts, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, sold a staggering 277,082 units you can’t help but feel sorry for your favorite plumber and friends.

This must be terrible news for Nintendo who now face competition in the next-generation marketplace as both Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One are now widely available to purchase throughout stores, with both consoles selling over one million units within its first 24 hours.

Can Nintendo turn this generation around do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
